Generalized comparison theorems in quantum mechanics
This paper is concerned with the discrete spectra of Schrödinger operators H = −∆ + V, where V (r) is an attractive potential in N spatial dimensions. Two principal results are reported for the bottom of the spectrum of H in each angular-momentum subspace Hl : (i) an optimized lower bound when the potential is a sum of terms V (r) = V (r) + V (r) , and the bottoms of the spectra of −∆+V (r) and...
متن کاملAnomalous diffusion, stable processes, and generalized functions.
The evolution equations in real space and time corresponding to a class of anomalous diffusion processes are examined. As special cases, evolution equations corresponding to stable processes are derived using the theory of generalized functions, recovering some known results differently interpreted, and an evolution law for stable processes of order unity.
متن کاملComparison theorems for multicomponent diffusion systems: developments since 1961
Comparison theorems may be used to prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to certain types of partial di erential equations. They provide bounds for solutions and can be used as the basis of numerical techniques for the computation of solutions. In 1961 Alex McNabb published one of the rst papers extending their use to multi-component systems. Developments in the theory and application...
متن کاملGeneralized Jarzynski’s equality of inhomogeneous multidimensional diffusion processes
Applying the well-known Feynman-Kac formula of inhomogeneous case, an interesting and rigorous mathematical proof of generalized Jarzynski’s equality of inhomogeneous multidimensional diffusion processes is presented, followed by an extension of the second law of thermodynamics. Then, we explain its physical meaning and applications, extending Hummer and Szabo’s work (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA...
متن کاملGeneralized Wishart Processes for Interpolation Over Diffusion Tensor Fields
Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (dMRI) is a non-invasive tool for watching the microstructure of fibrous nerve and muscle tissue. From dMRI, it is possible to estimate 2-rank diffusion tensors imaging (DTI) fields, that are widely used in clinical applications: tissue segmentation, fiber tractography, brain atlas construction, brain conductivity models, among others. Due to hardware limita...
